In March 2009 Dr Peter Waltham dedicated his time to the Rotary Australia Vietnam Dental Health Project.
This project was targeted at providing dental care to Vietnamese children in which were from the local community and schools who would otherwise not have access to such services.
The days consisted of 10-12 hours treating approximately 60 children a day implementing oral health care instructions, restorative and preventative dental treatment. This also included mentoring the local dental health profession. From this experience an ignition of passion was created to assist in our own backyard.
In Melbourne alone there is a high number of homeless and disadvantaged people whom have “fallen between the cracks”. These people do not have access to medicare, cannot afford dental treatment and with the waiting list of 2 or more years for the dental hospital a realization of need for dental care within our own community is needed.
